Charming Crochet Easter Eggs

Add a delightful touch to your Easter celebrations with these adorable crochet Easter eggs. These charming creations are perfect for Easter baskets, table decorations, teacher gifts, or even to organize a hand-crafted crochet Easter egg hunt. This project is an excellent opportunity to practice crocheting in the round and explore non-conventional increases to achieve an oblong shape.

Before starting, ensure you have the following materials:

  • Approximately 11 yards of Premier Home Cotton yarn (colorways shown: honeydew splash, ocean splash, tangerine splash)
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • About 0.3 ounces of Polyfil stuffing for each egg
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

You can use a different yarn if it is of the same weight category. Keep in mind that the amount of yarn needed might differ, so check your gauge and adjust as necessary.

Abbreviations (US crochet terminology):

  • Ch: Chain
  • Rep: Repeat
  • Sc: Single Crochet
  • Sc2tog: Single Crochet Two Together
  • Slst: Slip Stitch
  • St(s): Stitch(es)

The finished size of these crochet Easter eggs is 2 inches wide and 2.75 inches long. They are made in spiral rounds, starting with a magic ring. Various increasing and non-increasing rounds create the desired shape. Decreases (sc2tog) are made using the invisible method to minimize visible holes at the bottom of the egg.

Follow these written instructions:

  1. Begin with a magic ring containing 6 sc. Do not join; continue working in a spiral. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.
  2. For Round 2, make 2 sc in each st (12 sts).
  3. For Round 3, make 1 sc in each st (12 sts).
  4. For Round 4, start with 1 sc in the first st, then alternate between 2 sc in the next st and 1 sc in the following st until the end of the round (18 sts).
  5. For Round 5, make 1 sc in each st (18 sts).
  6. For Round 6, begin with 1 sc in the first 2 sts, then alternate between 2 sc in the next st and 1 sc in the following 2 sts until the end of the round (24 sts).
  7. For Rounds 7-12, make 1 sc in each st (24 sts).
  8. For Round 13, begin with 1 sc in the first 2 sts, then alternate between Sc2tog and 1 Sc in the next 2 sts until the end of the round (18 sts).
  9. For Round 14, start with 1 sc in the first st, then alternate between Sc2tog and 1 Sc in the next st until the end of the round (12 sts). Stuff the egg at the end of this round.
  10. For Round 15, repeat Sc2tog until the end of the round (6 sts). Remove the stitch marker and make a slst in that st to correct the jog from working in a spiral.

To finish, fasten off, leaving a 5-6 inch tail. With a darning needle, weave the tail in and out of the final round’s 6 stitches to create a drawstring closure. Pull the tail to close the opening and weave in the end.
